Restroom Signs

You don’t look for a restroom sign because you want to — you look because you need to.
And in that moment, the sign should already be there. On the wall near the corner, clearly visible from a distance, using a shape or symbol you don’t have to stop and interpret.

In public buildings, it’s usually the most familiar signs that go wrong. Sometimes they’re too small, or mounted too high. Sometimes the symbols are vague, or the font looks like it belongs on a poster, not next to a restroom.
We’ve seen beautiful interiors where someone tried to match the restroom sign to the furniture — and as a result, people walked right past it.

A proper restroom sign isn’t about being clever. It’s about being unmissable, but not loud.
The right size, the right contrast, the right height — and yes, sometimes braille, or raised text, because not everyone reads a room the same way.

These signs usually live near others: a directional arrow pointing down the hall, or a nearby facility notice.
And when they all follow the same visual rules — spacing, material, typography — the space just makes sense.
